“After having an initial knee replacement in 2013, and a revision including a foot drop and staph infection with emergency surgery, followed by an infectious disease in 2016, I decided I needed to change surgeons and found DOC. After explaining my dilemma to the person who answered the phone, I was scheduled to see Dr. Kang. At my initial appointment with Dr. Kang, he took the time to listen to me about my entire knee history and realized I probably had a nickel allergy. I knew I had an allergy growing up, but I never knew this would affect my knee. He was the only surgeon of the 2 previous ones who had suggested this allergy and had me tested for such. I was found to be highly allergic to nickel. In 2019, I received a ceramic-coated knee implant with no issues until a year later, when I dislocated my knee. I had emergency surgery by Dr. Kang to put my knee back into place. Once the cast came off, Dr. Kang informed me I would not be allowed to bend my knee more than 90-100 degrees to avoid having another dislocation. I’ve been living with very limited mobility for 5 years, when in 2025 I slipped going down the stairs at home and thought I had dislocated my knee again. I saw Dr. Kang, and he reassured me there was no dislocation. However, with all of my limitations, we discussed the possibility of having another revision in which I could have a hinged knee. The components are all one, and I wouldn’t have to worry about another dislocation. I am happy to report that I am scheduled for this revision in May.”
