Hand Reviews

“Dr. Harris is remarkable. I had an accident six years ago where I severed my right arm. I was taken to UT Medical Center, where they saved my right arm. However, because of this accident, I could no longer bend my right index finger or thumb. Dr. Harris performed surgery on me six weeks ago to move ligaments from my arm to my hand. Now I can bend all fingers in my right hand and make a fist. It is incredible. I would highly recommend Dr. Harris.”

“I put off getting treatment for my carpal tunnel syndrome until it was unbearable because I was dreading what I thought would be a painful and difficult recovery with lots of physical therapy. I should have gotten the issue addressed long ago. The surgery was done in-office with me awake. It was fast, and although there was some very slight discomfort, I'd gladly deal with that over having to go through the process of going under general anesthesia at the hospital. The pain and tingling of CTS I'd dealt with for a long time were completely gone once the local anesthetic wore off. Dr. Harris instructed me to move my fingers as much as possible after the surgery. So, I spent the evening after the surgery and about the next two days with my hand elevated and constantly moving my hand from open to a closed fist. I think this made a huge difference in my recovery, which was very easy. Pain after surgery was minimal for about two days and well-controlled with the mild narcotic prescribed. I never lost my strength, dexterity, or range of motion. In fact, I had to stop myself at one point about seven days after surgery, when I realized I had just single-handedly picked up a piece of firewood that was well over the 2lb post-surgery restriction. Dr. Harris and his staff are great. They're professional and do an awesome job. Although I hope to avoid needing the same procedure on my other hand, I will definitely be going to see Dr. Harris if I do. He is an excellent surgeon.”

“Outstanding. Dr. Harris is a master of his craft. Professional, knowledgeable, and empathetic. I will recommend Dr. Harris to family and friends for any hand and/or fingers/thumbs issues. I now have use of my right thumb with no pain. Dr. Harris explained the issue with my thumb and the surgery involved and was very upfront on the recovery time.....10 to 12 weeks. Great bedside manner, too.”

“Fingers in both of my hands had begun to curve several years ago, and the curvature kept getting worse. Dr. Harris performed surgery on the one hand, and I couldn't have been more pleased with the result. My hand looks great, and my fingers are straight and as useful as they have been in a long time. Next, Dr. Harris performed surgery on my other hand, and the result was equally impressive. I was extremely happy with the whole process. The outcome was terrific, and I was well taken care of and treated politely and professionally by the whole staff. Thank you, Dr. Harris, and thanks to your staff.”

“Multiple times over the years, I came to Dr. Smith before he retired, then to Dr. Harris for shots to ease carpal tunnel symptoms, until the shots were no longer successful. This fall, I opted for carpal tunnel release surgery by Dr. Harris at the UT hospital day surgery facility, choosing local anesthesia. The staff at day surgery was, like the staff in the University Orthopedic Surgeons section, friendly and efficient, and the operation was quickly done, and I was soon walking with my wife to the car and home. Discomfort from the surgery has been minimal, and the really bad numbness and pain that I had experienced before surgery was gone and has not returned after more than a week.”

“I wanted a hand/wrist specialist, preferably affiliated with the University of Tennessee Medical Center, and found Dr. Harris, University Orthopedic Surgeons. I did my research, made an appointment online, and was very impressed with him and the options that he gave me to have carpal tunnel surgery. I have suffered from symptoms for many years and decided to take the plunge and get it taken care of. I chose the bilateral (both wrists) endoscopic surgery and am very pleased with the results. My hands are no longer numb, tingle, and lose feeling, and I don't have to wear braces on my hands at night when I sleep or drive. The recovery has been relatively easy. I went back to work a week later. I had my sutures removed, and I had no restrictions. Finding a surgeon who is highly trained in the newest technology was very important to me, and I am so fortunate that Dr. Harris performed the surgery. He is also very kind and takes his time explaining things and answering questions. I highly recommend Dr. Harris and couldn't have asked for a better experience.”
– Gabrielle R.

“I totally severed my left triceps and injured my right shoulder in a fall at work. Dr. Harris examined me, sent me for an MRI, and scheduled surgery. He was very professional and instilled a great sense of confidence in his ability to repair my triceps surgically. The shoulder was to be treated with some physical therapy. Since my surgery, Dr. Harris has examined me and believes everything is coming along nicely. He is very knowledgeable and professional, as is the entire staff I've interacted with.”
